The reality is less stunning, yet it nevertheless has a profound effect on a newborn.
Sonia Rochel, a French nurse, devised a method to “welcome” infants into the world by replicating the environment in the womb from which they had been forcefully taken. “I invented this specific bathing technique that is there to welcome the newborn with complete gentleness,” she explains. It’s like a welcome gift to them as they enter this world.”
Sonia has been working with infants and young children for over 30 years, and she has seen many different methods of childbirth and post-natal care throughout that time. “In particular, I met a midwife, who showed me many lovely things.” The most important lesson Grandma taught me was that we must take our time with newborns.
Sonia, on the other hand, is more concerned about taking her time. She spent a lot of time monitoring infants and listening to what they were trying to tell us. “We hear a variety of sounds as background sounds.” We hear it, but we don’t really comprehend it. So, after going through this, I made a pledge to myself that I would do something for these infants.”
Based on her results, Sonia progressively developed the procedure today known as the Thalasso infant bath method. “Most of all,” Sonia says, “it’s about shifting the whole idea of a bath so that it becomes less rigid and more about enjoyment than hygiene.” I’d want to change the meaning of a baby bath: it’s not about cleaning under the arms, feet, ears, and so on. A bath is first and foremost about relaxing, feeling good, and so on, and it would be amazing if we could accept it as the new definition of a bath.”
