Baldwin was carrying a pistol on the Rust set when it went off, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Director Joel Souza also sustained a shoulder injury, but he eventually made a full recovery.
On Tuesday, Baldwin will stand trial for involuntary manslaughter.
In March of this year, the armorer in charge of weaponry on the film set was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in jail.
While everyone knows that Baldwin was the film’s lead actor and executive producer, Jensen Ackles’ intended co-star status surprised many.
On the day of the incident, New Mexico police interviewed Ackles while he was filming Supernatural and The Boys.
Viewers were shocked to discover that the actor was even in the film, much less a witness, when they shared the clip on YouTube and TikTok.
One commenter said, “I had no idea he was even engaged, let alone an eyewitness!” Poor Jensen.” Another person commented, “This is the first time I’ve heard he was in that film!”
One commenter mentioned another stunning piece of information shown in the video.
It began: “I knew he was in the movie and on set; I did not know he was supposed to be the one Alex was supposed to fire upon later, when they were going to actually shoot the scene.”
Ackles described the filming scenario, a gunfight in a church between his character and Baldwin’s, during his police interview.
While preparing for a close-up of Baldwin’s gun, the gun went off, possibly aimed at Ackles or one of his stunt doubles later in the day.
The actor was not in the church when the pistol went off, but he did report hearing it.
He explained, “It just sounded different; a true round sounds different than a blank.
“I whirled inside the chapel and saw Joel [Souza] down, screaming, and Halyna sat with her back to me, but I could see blood seeping on her khaki jacket, so I immediately started calling the medic.
“I stood back; I kicked myself for not running in there and doing something, but I don’t know what I would have done.”
The full interview clip is accessible on YouTube.
On TikTok, one account commented: “The fact that Jensen feels guilty for not doing something is absolutely heartbreaking.”
Production on Rust has continued, but Ackles has not rejoined the project; Josh Hopkins has assumed his role.
