During a humorous and unplanned scene on Saturday Night Live, the crowd reacted without hesitation.
During the Weekend Update segment of the April 5 episode of the late-night comedy sketch show, Ego Nwodim mocked the White House Correspondents Association’s decision to cancel comic Amber Ruffin’s appearance at their forthcoming dinner.
Channeling her alter persona, Ms. Eggy, Nwodim, 37, quipped that she could take Ruffin’s position before revealing the types of jokes she would tell if given the chance.
During his speech, Nwodim asked the audience, “These men aren’t what?” Those seated before her answered in unison, exclaiming, “S—.”
A stunned Nwodim said, “You’re going to get fined for that,” as Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che laughed behind her.
“Lorne will be mad at y’all,” she said, alluding to Lorne Michaels, the creator of Saturday Night Live.
The FCC has yet to announce whether it would punish SNL because the illegal term made it onto streaming but was detected by the five-second delay on NBC, according to Deadline.
According to the site, the “seven dirty words” that are not allowed over public airwaves include pee, f—, c—, and motherf——.
The curse word has been muted in clips of the incident published on SNL’s social media platforms and YouTube website, but Nwodim, Jost, and Che’s astonished expressions remain.
Fans of Saturday Night Live are now demanding the program release an unedited version of the scene.
“How dare you censor it?” That was one of the best moments of the season,” one user wrote.
“I’ve never seen Michael Che laugh so hard during an update before!!!” We definitely need more of Ms. Eggy! 😆 🤣 😂,” another said.
“I watched it six times in a row and was still giggling! “Perfection! 😂🤣😂,” one third commented, while another added, “When the audience understood the assignment and said ‘S—-!’ it was the most cathartic thing that ever happened.”
Saturday Night Live will return on April 12, with Jon Hamm as host and Lizzo as musical guest.
