Steven Tyler steals the show at the Colosseum in Rome with no electric guitar in sight!

When thinking about Run DMC’s iconic “Walk This Way,” images of Steven Tyler busting down studio walls may spring to mind. In 2017, Tyler performed at Rome’s Colosseum with an orchestra and two cellists, Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser of 2CELLOS, combining classical and rock elements.

Tyler went to Andrea Bocelli’s Celebrity Fight Night at the Colosseum, as described in Jimmy Walker’s book “It’s About Relationships: Building a Life that Matters.” Walker, Muhammad Ali, and Bocelli established the event, which has raised an impressive $132 million for charity. Walker recounts Tyler’s arrival, chewing gum, and distinctive stage antics, such as placing his gum beneath Elton John’s piano while singing Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”

Tyler’s performance with 2CELLOS was a brilliant example of genre fusion. They sang not just Aerosmith songs like “Dream On” and “Walk This Way,” but also themes from “Game of Thrones” and the Italian classic “Funiculi Funicula.” The performance was so well received that a fan, Azucena Pe, left a comment on 2CELLOS’ Facebook page, praising the song and their cooperation with Tyler.
