This second grader had always wanted to attend the father-daughter dance. She never anticipated that her father’s death would prevent her from attending.
That was until they made the prudent decision to volunteer as bodyguards for fatherless youngsters.
“I contacted the mother, and she claimed everything was OK. Nick Harvey, the Van Buren school resource officer, joked that he didn’t want to face rejection from a second grader. “So her mother discussed it with her, and the next day I formally asked her to be my date to the daddy-daughter dance.”
Harvey was thrilled and proud of his decision when he reminisced and told his story to 5 News while sitting next to the little girl herself, Avey Cox, who is eight years old. He exhibited no signs of grief and just had good intentions.
When the big night arrived, the parents and volunteers worked diligently to make it a beautiful and memorable occasion. Harvey and Cox planned their outfits, rode a limousine to the event, and even stopped for pizza along the way.
“It meant a lot because I got to see all my friends there,” Cox told 5News before turning to Harvey and smiling. “And then I got to go along with him and have a great time.”
That particular moment was priceless. The small child’s grin and gestures at Harvey are so charming that our hearts melt!
Harvey agreed that it was a spectacular night, one he would never forget. According to the officer, the two had several wonderful encounters at the Arkansas school, both on and off the dance floor.
“I humiliated myself a little bit by dancing when I can’t dance at all,” Harvey said with humor.
“Dancing with him.” Cox trailed off, as if she were about to cry. Harvey then grabbed and embraced her. It was a great, honest moment, and their relationship is definitely unique and important, especially for a child who has lost a parent at such a young and crucial age.
The daddy-daughter dance was one of the evening’s most memorable moments. Someone at the celebration recorded Harvey and Cox dancing and posted it on the Internet, where it rapidly went viral.
Harvey’s goodness affected more than just the young girl; the entire world felt how pure and lovely that night truly was. It’s amazing to see some kind of people out there doing good in today’s world.
