They move so beautifully!
Today, when you mention dance, you think about TikTok and the various viral songs that they utilize to come up with new moves that would, later on, become challenges.
Dance steps develop, and while we are attempting to accept the new form of dancing, there are still certain youngsters who want to dance the shag.
What is shag dance, and why is it popular?
Shag dance is a sort of swing dance that became popular throughout the 1930s and 1940s. The dance is a blend of agile footwork and the appealing melody of rhythm and blues.

You have undoubtedly seen shag dancing in old movies, and you might even recall dancing to the music that made it more famous.
In 1984, the Shag dance became the official state dance of South Carolina, and the NSDC was founded.
Since then, the NSDC, or National Shag Dance Championships, has held its yearly event and is currently the longest-running shag dance competition here in the United States.
This year, the National SHAG Dance Championship turned 38 years old.
The only year they missed was last year. It was due to the limitations because of the increased incidence of COVID-19.

YouTube channel Stages Video Productions revealed one of the pairs that participated at the March 2022 NSDC. Trinity Davis and Mack West competed and won the Junior II Division, and they were also named the Overall Champions of this year’s tournament!
It’s no surprise that Mack West won the shag dance this year. After all, shag dancing runs in their family. Mack’s father, Sam, his mother, Lisa, and his sister, Sydney, had all competed in the coveted tournament.
For the “junior” shag dance category, the dancers should be under 21 years of age.
The couple selected the song “Pony Time” by Chubby Checker, and it was very infectious. If you believe the beat is familiar, it’s because Checker previously sang the classic song “Let’s Twist Again.”
As predicted, Mack’s footwork was outstanding and faultless. His motions appear so light, yet he never missed a beat.

Their dancing techniques were so intricate that you would feel afraid that they might trip on each other. But since they’re pros, it seems like they’re dancing in the air.
If you are a fan of these two young experts in swag dance, you know that this wasn’t their first time winning. They’ve been dancing for many years, and each year, they never fail to amaze their audience with new moves.
Last year, Trinity and Mack achieved first place in the Grand National competition for the Junior Shag Category.
After the dance, members of the crowd rose up and gave them a standing ovation, and they hugged while smiling.
They didn’t simply compete; they loved their performance as well.

You may not be educated about the rich history of Shag dancing, but witnessing these two great dancers is worth your time.
Who knows, you could acquire a liking for shag dancing as well.
